Welshpool High School

Welshpool High School is located in Welshpool, Powys. It is a combined secondary school and sixth form, catering for pupils aged 11 – 19.

Motto & The School

The School's motto is Raising Achivement By Raising Expectations. The school has one of the highest attendances in Wales and pupils consistently achieves above average GCSE grades. It was described as "A very good school with many outstanding features" in a 2004 Estyn report[1].

Astro Turf

Welshpool High School has an Astro Turf pitch used throughout the year for sporting events. It is flood lit, and cost about £450,000 to build. It is used very frequently by the school and public.[2]

5x60

The school has a 5x60 scheme, where children are offered to do some extracurricular activities. There are lunchtime activities such as basketball, dodgeball, and other activities. There is also after school activities. Body Poppers is a very popular activity, where members will get their own Body Poppers sweatshirt.

Sixth form

The secondary school has a sixth form. Sixth form pupils can choose from a diverse curriculum with all of the major A-level subjects including sciences and languages featured[3]. They are also provided with numerous extracurricular opportunities such as the Duke of Edinburgh award scheme. A 'leadership team' of a head boy, head girl and 4 deputies are elected from the year 13 each year, with roles such as improving teacher-pupil relations, organising charity events and the annual 6th form Dinner Dance.
